The Ball of Baroness Béatrice returns on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, bringing back to life the great tradition of themed costume balls, which were very popular with the high French aristocracy from the Belle Époque to the mid-twentieth century. The Ball will revisit the imagery and spirit of the great French artistic and cultural movements during the 18th century by reviving the Fêtes Galantes of the court of Louis VX.
Each year, the Monegasque cultural association AIDA organizes and creates a unique scenery and an arts programme that draws attention to the chosen theme and an art of living that immerses their guests in the spirit of the era.
An exceptional setting
The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is a choice setting for this summer evening, as it offers its guests a timeless and poetic outdoor event in luxurious gardens, as well as water games by candlelight, supper, and performances on the terrace of a House Museum with its refined architecture on display. The soirée will draw to an end with its costume ball beneath the dome of the Villa’s Renaissance Patio.
A charming and refreshing theme
The 2018 Ball of Baroness Béatrice will recreate the atmosphere of the Fêtes Galantes, the first Garden Parties that were wildly popular with the court of Louis XV. Between 1715 and 1770, the French Nobility took to nature and pastoral imagery to rid themselves of the stiffness of the previous court.
It organized outdoor festivities that were also games of seduction where gallantry was cultivated. The festivities became so popular that they influenced a pictorial movement of the same name and gave rise to the literature , decorative arts, architecture, new art of living, and thoughts of the Lumières Philosophers.
